Best Family Hotels in Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia Family Travel

We love exploring Malaysia with kids. So much so that we’ve spent close to a year and a half traveling in the country. Most of that time was in Penang, but we’ve also explored Malacca, Langkawi, Ipoh, the Cameron Highlands and more. Most recently we were in Borneo and loved it.

Many of these trips include a visit to Kuala Lumpur, also known as KL. We’re always looking for family-friendly hotels in KL, and so below we’ve listed up a few for you to consider

Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur: Luxury

This is the best family hotel in Kuala Lumpur for those who want both luxury and location. The Grand Hyatt sits just next to the KLCC center. That means you have the Petronas towers, the Petrosains Museum, and the water symphony within walking distance. You also have the park and pools of KLCC Park. Massive windows give you a view of it all.

There is no kids club, but babysitting services are available. There is also a business center and meeting rooms for those working online.

The breakfast buffet here is massive and exquisite. The kids’ pool is small. That said, when you consider everything else you have in this central location, you may not spend much time there anyway.

Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur: Luxury

Another impeccably located luxury option between the KLCC Center and the KLCC park itself. This makes the list of best family hotels in KL for its location and view of the Petronas Towers from some rooms. Rooms have iPod docks, DVD players, and 42” flat screen TVs.

There’s also an infinity pool. For those who want extra pampering, the spa and wellness center has recently been renovated. Babysitting services are also available.

The Westin Kuala Lumpur: Luxury

Located in KL’s Golden Triangle district, the Westin is one of the best family hotels in Kuala Lumpur for a number of reasons. Firstly, let’s talk location. You get exceptional access to the Bukit Bintang shopping and restaurant district. Berjaya Times Square and the KLCC center and park are both minutes away by taxi. Or take the covered walkway. Lot 10 and the Pavillion shopping center are both extremely close and walkable and recommended for both shopping and eating. Just keep in mind that roads in KL have bumps and potholes and may not be very stroller-friendly.

Secondly, there are connecting rooms for families. The breakfast buffet here gets high marks, as well. The Westin also has a Kids Club, which includes a playground and video games.

Best Family Hotels in Kuala Lumpur

Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Serviced Residences: Moderate

We absolutely loved our stay at Lanson Place. Without a doubt, we would consider it one of the best family hotels in Kuala Lumpur. This isn’t a hotel room but a serviced apartment. That means you have a kitchen, a dining area, a washer/dryer and the feel of a high-rise apartment.

We had an incredible living room to hang out in (massive TV, surround sound, etc) and the private office was a total bonus for me. The wifi was reliable, too.

We walked into Bukit Bintang for restaurants every night, including the famous Jalan Alor street. For other downtown sights, we used the monorail, taxis and public buses. The breakfast buffet was exceptional — lots of variety and quality, with a great view of the city.

There’s a great pool, with plenty of shallow space for young ones and a playground near the lounge chairs, as well.

PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur: Moderate

The Park Royal is perfectly located for those who want to explore the city on foot. Restaurants can be found in every direction. Places like Berjaya Times Square, the KLCC Center, Jalan Alor, and all of Bukit Bintang are a short walk or taxi ride away. Location and value for money make this one of the best family hotels in KL.

We loved the spacious apartment and large windows for a great view. We could even see Jalan Alor from our living room! I also appreciated the spacious office space and dependable wifi.

There are two pools at PARKROYAL. We spent all of our time at the rooftop pool because of the view and the Jacuzzi.

Another thing worth mentioning is their breakfast buffet. Listed as a “Continental” Breakfast, we arrived thinking it would be bread and jam. Not so. We enjoyed lots of international dishes, eggs made to order and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur: Moderate

Located just south of Kuala Lumpur’s largest park complex, Le Meridien is close to KL’s green side. This is one of the best family hotels in Kuala Lumpur because of its access to parks. You have quick access to the butterfly garden, the bird park, the Islamic Arts Museum and more. Shopping and restaurants can be found in Nu Sentral Mall, with plenty of other options a short taxi ride away.

Rooms have workstations, satellite TV, and large windows overlooking the city or garden area. The pool is large and has a waterside for little kids.

Another benefit of Meridien is easy access to and from KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport). Simply jump on the KLIA Express to KL Sentral and you’re four minutes on foot from the Meridian.

Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral: Moderate

Aloft Kuala Lumpur is located minutes from KL Sentral Station on foot. This gives you access to both downtown Kuala Lumpur and further afield. Proximity to KL Sentral makes it one of the best family hotels in Kuala Lumpur. With KL’s main transport hub within walking distance, you can easily access the Batu Caves and other places away from the city center. You can also reach it easily by train from the airport.

Rooms are spacious and have free wifi access. Rooms facing the Petronas Towers have (arguably) the best view. The breakfast buffet is highly rated, as well as the rooftop pool and bar.

The lobby also has a pool table and XBox Kinect. You also have easy access to the Nu Sentral shopping center, which is connected to the hotel by a raised walkway.

Le Apple Boutique Hotel @ KLCC: Budget

Located just north of KLCC Park, Le Apple Boutique Hotel gives you easy access to many of Kuala Lumpur’s best sites. The Petronas Towers, the water play areas, the Petrosains Museum and everything offered at KLCC is minutes away.

Another thing that makes this one of the best family hotels in Kuala Lumpur is that you’re also near one of the main hubs of the Aeroline Bus company. These buses are very nice and go direct to Penang and other locations. We’ve used them multiple times, and one of their main pick-up and drop-off locations is just outside the hotel.

For food, you have KLCC to the south and TAPAK Food Truck Park to the east, among many other options.

Despite its downtown location, it’s quiet, but there aren’t proper closets in many of the rooms, so clothes may stay in your suitcase during a stay.

Amigo Hotel: Budget

Located near Petaling Jaya in Chinatown, the Amigo Hotel give you access to some of the best east in the city. Restaurants, flea markets, train access and the hop-on/hop-off bus are all within a few minutes’ walk. There are surely others, but Amigo Hotel is the only hotel in the Chinatown area that makes our best hotels in KL list.

Rooms come with a private shower and free wifi, but the signal may be quite weak. Rooms are small and clean.

There is a 7-11 downstairs, but the hotel offers free drinking water to guests.

Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade: Budget

Located a few minutes south of Berjaya Times Square, the Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade is a budget hotel with some higher-end amenities. Rooms have a flat-screen TV, slippers and free toiletries. There is also an outdoor pool (no lifeguard).

Another aspect that makes puts this on the list of best family hotels in Kuala Lumpur is their kids’ policy. Up to two kids under 16 years old can stay free of charge. If using existing bedding. Confirm this when you book.

Airbnb Apartments: Best Family Hotels in Kuala Lumpur

There are many great apartment rentals for families in Kuala Lumpur. Some of them include gym access and pools, but most of them do not include daily cleaning or breakfast.

In addition to these perks, we actually like to stay in apartments since we usually end up staying in a larger place for about the same price. Daily cleaning is not a must for us, and if there’s a decent kitchen, we don’t mind cooking light meals for breakfast.

If you are a family of four or more, it might be better to look for an apartment as an accommodation option for your family travel to Kuala Lumpur. Below are some apartments I would consider as equivalent to some of the best family hotels in Kuala Lumpur.
