Best Hotels in Tulum for Families & Everyone Else

Far from the bombast of Cancun, the town of Tulum has become a great alternative to the typical Mexico beach vacation. White sands, blue seas, great food, and friendly people. Also a slower pace and a more relaxed atmosphere than in tourist hotspots further north on the Peninsula. These are just a few things you’ll find in Tulum.

Tulum also has lots of great hotels for families, for solo travelers and for couples. We’ve created this list of some of the best family hotels in Tulum to help you find the best spot for you and your kids. We’ll be updating this post regularly, so if you know how to make this list better, let us know!

Best Time to Go to Tulum with Kids

Tulum beach with kids Best Hotels in Tulum for Families — Our Guide to the Best Family Hotels in Tulum

This part of the Caribbean is hot to fairly warm year round, with the strongest rains in June, August, and September. Peak temperatures hit in July at 35ºC/95ºF and crushing humidity. We advise visiting from October through April but expect the heaviest crowds (and highest prices) rolling in after December.

Tulum city itself may appear at first to just be one long sun-drenched strip, but there are lots of restaurants and boutique hotels off of the side roads.

Some places listed here are in town and some are by the beach.

Beach and town are a short drive or bike ride away. There’s a nice flat sidewalk between town and the beach, but it’s a long walk in the heat. If you’re staying in town and the kids are too young to bike, consider taking a taxi to the beach area.

Tulum is on its way up, but the infrastructure and the hospitality mindset still isn’t evenly distributed yet. You may experience slow service, spotty wifi, and sputtering air conditioning even in some of the nicer places.
