The Living Room: Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Review

The living room was huge and well-furnished, but the first thing we noticed was the view. This wall-sized pane of glass looked far into downtown KL, with the Petronas Towers off to the left.

After gawking at the cityscape, we composed ourselves and inspected the rest of the place. The living room consisted of a large comfortable L-shaped sofa facing a plasma screen TV the size of a dinner table. When we saw the surround-sound speaker system connected to it, we knew we’d have to try it out later.

Next to the sofa was a solid wood dining table with comfortable seats for six. The wall from the front door to the window was a grid of wooden shelves deep enough to place as much as you wanted. This helped make our time in Lanson Place feel more like a home than a serviced apartment. We may be putting backpacks and cameras on these shelves, but they were more suited for family portraits, trophies and fine art purchased in one’s travels.

The Kitchen & Laundry Room: Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Review

To the left of the living room, the kitchen gleamed, ready for use. In the center was a marble-topped island counter. This was a perfect spot for light meals or snacks to go with coffee from the Nespresso machine.

There were nice pots, pans, and utensils for basic cooking, and the cabinets held more than enough plates, glasses, and cutlery for a considerable cocktail party. The fridge in this place….wow. This was more like a double fridge, with double doors opening to reveal a frosty and somewhat cavernous interior.

Next to the kitchen was the laundry room. Here we found the washer and dryer, a safe, an iron and an ironing board, as well as a spare umbrella, flashlight, and power cord. Laundry basket and some detergent, as well.

The Bedrooms: Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Review

We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment. Both bedrooms had a safe and a television, and the kid’s bedroom had a sturdy desk and chair. There were also deep closets built into the walls, with motion sensors to turn on the closet lights. I snickered at this luxury until later that night when I was looking for my phone charger in the dark after Keiko had gone to bed. It sure came in handy then.

We loved having such deep shelves. We were carrying much more than we usually do: eight bags in total, four of them large suitcases. With shelves and cabinets like these, we could have stored double the amount and still kept it accessible and out of sight.

The beds had a nice balance of sink and bounce. I usually prefer them a little firmer, but after weeks on the road, it was heaven to dive into this. Lanson Place also has a pillow menu for those who are particular about what you lay your head on at night.

The kids had twin beds with that amazing view of the city through a wall-length window. We had a similar view but kept the electric blinds down in our bedroom most of the time. Each room had electric blinds that could seal up the place like a darkroom if you so desired. I sleep best in total darkness, so this was a cherished perk.

The Bathrooms & Showers: Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Review

Just outside the kids’ twin bedroom was a toilet, glassed-in standing shower and sink with all the amenities. Our master bedroom was even better. The glassed-in room had a stone tub and shower with nozzle and rainshower options. We had enough standing room for one or two parents and child to bathe together (if your kids need help), all without stepping all over each other. There was even a stone bench next to the shower and a waterproof headrest for the bath. The toilet was in a separate space across from the shower and closed into the wall.

We found all the usual quality amenities: toothbrush, cotton swabs, Q-tips, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and body lotion. All the typical towel shapes and varieties, too — consistently soft, plush and immaculately folded.

The Office: Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Review

Many luxury apartments like this put a desk in the master bedroom. At Lanson Place, however, I had a separate office a few steps away. With its narrow desk and large window, the office itself feels a little larger than it needed to be, but I appreciated the space. I also loved the ergonomic chair and having a closed-off room to myself. That way I could have Skype calls and keep the clickety-clack of my keyboard from disturbing anyone.

We also appreciated how many power outlets we found throughout the apartment. There were five near the desk in the office, but you could find them by each bed and strategically located throughout the house.

The Pool: Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Review

Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon Review: Amazing Luxury Stay in Kuala Lumpur pool & playground

Looking down from our 41st-floor apartment, we could see a shimmering strip of blue. The pool at Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon is long, clean and very child-friendly. In fact, we saw plenty of families here, and it was hard to tell who actually lived at Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon and who were guests like us.

The pool was around chest-deep on my 11-year-old (158cm / 5.2ft), and there were plenty of steps and seats for parents to sit with their smaller ones. The large kids’ pool was under maintenance during our stay.

Alongside the pool are at least two dozen beach chairs and umbrellas, and behind them, you’ll find a few restaurants serving the residents. Locker rooms and the sauna were around the corner.

I like places that provide ample towels for the pool, and Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon is one of them. Simply grab one as you step out to the swimming area. When you’re finished, throw it in the hamper on your way out.

Breakfast at Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon

We thoroughly enjoyed taking the elevator to the 48th floor every morning at Lanson Place. The breakfast buffet was plentiful varied and high quality. We found plenty of western and Asian offerings to satisfy the preferences of each of our tastes.

Keiko enjoyed a large salad full of fresh veggies, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. She also tried the yogurt and muesli. The boy went for the breads and an English breakfast, complete sausages, mushrooms and baked beans. Our sweet-tooth daughter opted for waffles and hot chocolate — with some fruit and veggies on the side so her mom wouldn’t bug her.

I sampled all of these, but my personal favorite was the cheese plate and smoked meats. Perhaps I enjoyed so much because we had just spent nearly two years in Spain, where cheese and sausages a staple of daily life. Whatever the reason, I loved being able to have a few final wedges of good bleu and camembert before heading back to Japan (our second home), where good cheese is a luxury.

Many of these options were available the following days. However, the Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon kitchen mixed it up each morning, so that longer-term residents won’t get bored with the menu.

For those with little ones, you’ll be happy to know we saw half a dozen booster seats available, and more than a few of them in use.

One thing we must mention is that it was very cold in the breakfast area. So much so that we went back to our room to change into a long sleeve shirt. This may be because we were there early when they had just opened. It also could be because Malaysia loves aircon. We’ve spent over 14 months in and out of Penang, so we know.

Other Facilities at Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon

Luxury apartments like this often cater solely to the business traveler. Despite this, it became immediately apparent that Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon welcomes the family traveler. In addition to the high chairs and booster seats mentioned above, we saw a small outdoor playground near the pool’s BBQ units. A glassed-in play room full of plush toys was only a few paces away, as well.

Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon also has two gyms, one of which is available to short-term guests like us. The 48th-floor gym has more than enough equipment for a solid workout. If you’re interested in exercising your brain, then head upstairs past the breakfast area to the pool table and complimentary internet.

Wifi at Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon

The internet in our apartment wasn’t the best or the fastest we’ve ever had. That said, it was steady and reliable during our entire stay, and that can’t be said for many places in the region.

One other thing to mention about the wifi, and it’s something we’ve seen in all manner of accommodation options. The wifi was complimentary, but we were only allowed to connect four devices. I don’t know about your family, but we have plenty more than four devices that we use online…often in a single day. For example, our family of four uses three laptops, two iPads, three phones, one iPod touch and two Kindles.

No, they’re not all online all the time, but we use most of them each day at one time or another. For example, My daughter wanted to download a new book to her Kindle, but we had already hit our device limit. The process of getting one of those devices off the network to connect another is far more troublesome than it needs to be. We had to call reception for help.

Location of Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon

Perched on a hill overlooking the city, Lanson Place Bukit Ceylon is walking distance from heaps of great eating and drinking establishments. In fact, we walked to Jalan Alor, KL’s most famous restaurant strip, twice while staying here. The free public buses (Go KL) can drop you off nearby, or you can take a shuttle to get just about anywhere.
