The Living Room: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur Review: Great Family Apartments in KL living room dining room

We stayed in the two-bedroom premier suite and it was the perfect size and layout for our family. Our large living room had two comfy sofas and two padded chairs in front of a 40″ Television and speaker system. Large windows illuminated each room. A mirrored wall next to the dining area further illuminated the space and made it feel even larger.

We soon discovered that these floor-to-ceiling windows would light up much of the apartment. They could also heat up the apartment as well. That said, air conditioning units throughout the apartment ensured that we could avoid the Malaysian sun’s wrath.

The living room had two good AC units, of which we used only one. There were also plenty of plug outlets to charge all our cameras, computers and other devices.

Kitchen & Laundry: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur Review: Great Family Apartments in KL kitchen utensils and cooking

When we come to Kuala Lumpur, one of our favorite things to do is to eat out. However, we rent apartments like PARKROYAL because we like to cook in as well.

The kitchen area of the two bedroom premier suite is a small space that had everything we needed for most simple meals in our repertoire. In addition to pots, pans, utensils, and cutlery, there was a toaster, coffee maker, water heater and microwave. Our room also had a rice cooker, which would get lots of use if we stayed here long-term.

Across the hall from the kitchen are a washer and dryer. This is a huge appeal for us as a traveling family because we usually only bring a few outfits that we wear over and over. In a hot place like Malaysia, I’m only wearing a shirt once before it needs to be washed. Some of the smaller units that cater more to single business travelers didn’t have a washer/dryer in the apartment, but there is a laundromat in the basement floors near the gym with free service. We brought our own detergent, but it was available in the laundromat.

Having a dryer in this part of the world is also a rare thing. When we’ve lived in Japan, in Malaysia, and in Spain, we’ve always hung our clothes out to dry, so this was an added luxury for us.

The Bedrooms: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur Review: Great Family Apartments in KL bedrooms

Our suite’s bedrooms had one king-size bed and one queen. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide ample natural light during the day. They also gave us great views of the city at night. Floor-length curtains block out the sun when you want to sleep late. there were spotless tile floors in the main living area and hardwood floors in the bedrooms.

On the firm-to-soft scale, both beds were on the softer side, with several pillow types to choose from. A medium-sized closet provided adequate space for our backpacks and suitcases.

The master bedroom had another 40″ TV and a private bath. The guest bedroom where the kids slept had its own desk.

The Office: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

The kids’ room had its own desk, but one of the nicest aspects of our apartment at PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur was the office space. Positioned near the living and dining area, the office had a hardwood desk, ergonomic chair and plenty of shelf space.

Those great floor-length windows are here too, and a solid door where I could close myself off to get some work done. In fact, at one point I was on a Skype call and the kids who were reading in the living room next door asked Keiko where I was. I am not a quiet speaker, and they didn’t hear me.

The Bathrooms: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

For the kids, the hallway bathroom had a toilet and a glassed-in standing shower. The stone sink had all the usual amenities, including shampoo, conditioner and body soap.

In our master bedroom, we had all this along with a raised tub behind a sliding glass door. The tub is raised higher than we’ve usually seen in places like this. Perfectly safe and functional, but you might want to help smaller kids when stepping out.

Two Pools: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur has two pools. If you want to swim laps, head to the pool on level one where you can also find a gym. If you want to relax or play in the sun, sit in a jacuzzi, or just take in the cityscape, head to the roof.

There are sun chairs for reading and sunbathing. Yet what we liked best about this pool was that it had large shaded portions. For sunburn-prone people like me and my kids, this meant we could swim at high noon if we wanted.

The jacuzzis were nice as well. One was like a hot tub, while the other was the same temperature as the pool. Both were relaxing and safe, with extra precautionary bars to ensure little ones can’t get too close to the edge of the roof.

The Location: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

This is one of the true advantages of staying at PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur. You can easily step into the heart of the city from the hotel’s front entrance. The famous Jalan Alor food street is five minutes away, and there are plenty of other good restaurants even closer. We ate at Nasi Kandar at places just across the street several times.

Beyond next door, there were a number of other restaurants and venues we missed simply because we ran out of time. The No Black Tie jazz bar is just around the corner. Three minutes up the road is J&P Magic House, a restaurant with live magic shows that are a hit with lots of kids.

The Bukit Bintang district and train station are minutes away on foot. If you want to go further afield, the front desk and porters can help you locate a taxi, Uber ride or other transport. The Free GO KL buses are perfect for us here, as well.

One of our favorite nearby activities was the canopy walk in KL Forest Eco Park about a 15-minute walk away.

Breakfast at PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur

PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur calls their breakfast “Continental,” but it was much more than that. We stepped in expecting something simple: bread, jams, fruit, and coffee, basically. Perhaps some cereal for picky kids. That’s what “Continental” implies, right?

We found much more.

On top of the “continental breakfast” standards, there were several food stations that alternated by day. One morning there was roti, dhal, and several other Indian-related breakfast items. The following day there were steamed buns and other Chinese morning standards. All of this on top of a variety of breads and pastries, cereals, fruit, yogurt and salad.

One morning the boy and I had a Thai/Malay-style mild yellow curry based dish. Keiko and our girl stuck to yogurt, danishes, and omelets from the egg station situated in the garden.

Extras at PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur Review: Great Family Apartments in KL lounge playroom

One extra that we appreciated at PARKROYAL was the lounge located just above the breakfast room. Separate from the lobby, here you’ll find a small play area for toddlers, several computer stations and a living room-style lounge with a massive TV. There’s also a foosball and air hockey table.

Many flights to Kuala Lumpur arrive very early in the morning, we were told. This lounge space serves as a waiting room until check-in. If the kids aren’t entertained by the computers, play spaces or game tables, PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur staff can help you find some children’s programming to keep the kiddos occupied until your room is ready.

The Service: PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur Review

We had good interactions with the staff during our stay at PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur. The front desk was cordial and helpful when we needed to secure transport, and the porters and security at the front entrance were super helpful with our heaviest bags. They also offer a storage service which we took advantage of on our check-out day. Because they held our bags, we were able to have an unencumbered morning walk to the KL Forest Eco Park, just 15 minutes away.

Wifi at PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur

Like many good hotels around the world, PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur has dependable wifi. It’s not the fastest we’ve had, but adequate for Skype calls for me and youtube viewing for the kids.

PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur allows for four devices to connect to their system. Not enough for our needs, but this is a standard we had encountered in many places. Ask nicely and they might allow you more than four.
