Pool Villa Club Review: Luxury Family Hotel in Lombok

We travel a lot. Our accommodation varies and we stay in a variety of locations and levels of comfort: from luxury apartments to tents on the beach. Fortunately for us, we finished our three-week journey through Lombok at Pool Villa Club.

At Pool Villa Club, we stayed in an incredible villa with easy access to both the beach and an amazing pool. When I say easy access, I mean that the beach was a 2-minute walk away, and the pool was right outside our door! Our villa’s back deck sat right on the edge of the pool, a long, river-like strip of blue that looped through the grounds. More on that later. First, let’s talk about the villa.

Our villa was like a luxury apartment or condo. The first floor had a full bathroom, living room and den. There was a solid wooden desk for work and a dining table near the minibar.

The den area had two single beds for the kiddos, just in front of the huge flatscreen TV. In fact, the kids were thrilled to find an old Harry Potter movie on later that evening. They were doubly thrilled that we let them watch since we rarely even turn the TV on when traveling.

Walk past the living area and swing open the back doors and you’ll find two lounge deck chairs facing the pool. On the left was our own personal jacuzzi. We started filling it right away so that we could try it out later for a dip. It’s deep, so give it time to fill.

Walk up the steps and you’re greeted with a king-sized four-poster bed. There’s a second desk where work could be done here, too. That said, the large mirror and attached hair dryer told me this was more of a place to make yourself up before a night out.

Walk past the bed to the huge walk-in closet. Here’s where you’ll find a safe, an iron/ironing board, robes and a raised platform for your luggage. This is one of those small things that I love, as I like to have my bags at waist-level when packing/unpacking instead of bending over every two minutes.

Now let’s talk about the master bathroom. The flower-adorned bathtub was wide and deep enough for two, with a glassed-in standing shower next door. Great water pressure. In front of the massive mirror you’ll find two of everything, so Keiko and I wouldn’t fight over soap, towels or shampoo.

The floor in the shower and bathroom was a nice texturized stone. It was pleasing to the touch without becoming slippery when wet.

Walking across the second floor to the deck, I realized something. Despite the occasional creak from the steps, the entire second floor was sturdy and made no noise. This is especially impressive with a big, graceless guy like me. I usually have to tip-toe at night so I won’t wake the kids. No worries about that here.

The Pool

This, of course, was our kids’ favorite part of our stay: the pool. Like a river running through your backyard, the water at Pool Villa Club is steps away from the back deck.

The pool isn’t deep, but little kids would need to be accompanied. It gets shallower at the end near the beach. Your kids will want to head this way anyway. Why? Because the pool bar here serves cakes, sandwiches, and fruit from two to six pm every day. Our kids wanted to gorge themselves. However, we made them restrain themselves so they wouldn’t ruin their appetite for dinner. They had a few chocolate croissants and melon skewers. Keiko and I had tea and small sandwiches.

The Grounds: Pool Villa Club Review

The grounds of Pool Villa Club hug an excellent stretch of Senggigi Beach. The restaurants and shops of Senggigi are minutes away on foot, but make sure to spend some time on the grounds themselves. Pool Villa Club and its partner Kila Beach Resort share some beautifully landscaped grounds.

There are a few restaurants here, too, and some lovely walking paths along the way. While we were there, guests sat under lantern-festooned trees while a jazz quartet accompanied the sunset.

The Food: Pool Villa Club Review

The breakfast buffet was included in our stay at Pool Villa Club. Fruit, salad and Chinese-style rice porridge stations sat next to covered trays holding noodles, rice, and sausages. Eggs and pancakes were made to order.

There were cereal, oatmeal, and other Western fare, but the food on display here was more aimed at an Asian audience. This suited us fine, but I wouldn’t come here expecting a full English breakfast.

The Service: Pool Villa Club Review

This is a luxury resort, and we experienced first-class service start to finish. Even grounds people consistently greeted us with a smile. Room service was impeccable, but we only used it once during our stay. On any stay under three days, we usually prefer to make our own beds and reuse towels. This seemed to perplex the staff when we told them no cleanup as needed the second day.

Summary of Our Pool Villa Club Review

Pool Villa Club Review: Luxury Family Hotel in Lombok

Want a quick summary of our Pool Villa Club review? Here are the main points, and then some.

Things we liked

  • Great location
  • Beautiful grounds
  • Great service

Things we loved

  • Fantastic pool
  • Stylish but solid building & furniture
  • One of the best villas we’ve ever stayed in

Other things

  • The pool closes at 7 pm for cleaning. This was a drag for my teen who wanted to go for a late dip, but perfect for my tween in that it motivated her to get up for a swim before breakfast.
  • Breakfast caters to locals: There are cereal and eggs, but rice, noodle and porridge dishes are more prominent.
  • Mention Coffee?
  • Like most places in Lombok, the Wifi at Pool Villa Club is unreliable. We found the signal strongest near reception, but it varied. If you can spend some time unplugged on Lombok, you’ll be a happier person!
